India Plans More Evacuation Flights As Operation Sindhu Progresses

June 23, 2025

The Government of India has announced plans for three additional evacuation flights from Iran in the next two to three days as part of the ongoing Operation Sindhu. This update was provided by the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, on June 22, 2025, during an interaction with the media.

Margherita shared that the government remains in close coordination with Indian citizens in both Iran and Israel, ensuring their safe return.

He mentioned that around 162 Indian nationals, who had recently crossed into Jordan from Israel, are also expected to be brought back to India within the next couple of days.

The minister made these remarks after receiving a fresh batch of evacuees at the Delhi Airport.

A special flight from Mashhad carried 285 Indian citizens, who hailed from various states including Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Margherita pointed out that this latest group has raised the total number of Indians repatriated under Operation Sindhu to 1,713.

Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) were present at the airport to welcome the evacuees.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the MEA confirmed that the special flight from Mashhad had safely landed in New Delhi at 11:30 pm on 22 June.

The ministry reiterated that the nation’s evacuation efforts remain steady and committed under Operation Sindhu, and highlighted that a total of 1,713 Indian nationals had been successfully brought home from Iran so far.

Pabitra Margherita also took to social media to express his satisfaction over the progress of the evacuation mission.

He conveyed that it was heartening to receive 285 fellow citizens at the airport, and emphasised that their safe return reflects the government’s unwavering focus on protecting its people during times of crisis.

Operation Sindhu, launched in response to escalating tensions in the region, continues to work towards ensuring that all Indians stranded in affected areas are brought back home safely.
