Mohammad Kaif’s bold assertion has sent ripples through the cricketing community: could Jasprit Bumrah’s red-ball career be nearing its end?

Speaking in a recent video, Kaif warned that the star seamer “might retire” from Test cricket, pointing to a worrying decline in pace and body fitness during the ongoing Manchester Test against England.

Once consistently clocking speeds above 140?kmph in earlier Tests at Headingley and Lord’s, Bumrah’s deliveries in Manchester have dropped to around 130–135?kmph—a sharp decline for a bowler whose menace lay in his velocity.

Observers noted a visible struggle: he appeared to be holding his ankle on Day?3 before gingerly returning to bowl, fuelling speculation about his physical wellbeing.

Kaif described Jasprit Bumrah as a “selfless person” who always gives his all for the country.

However, he emphasised that if Bumrah feels he can no longer perform at 100?percent or impact matches for his team, he might step away—by his own decision.

His gut feeling, Kaif admitted, is that Bumrah’s body has simply “given up,” and that he no longer appears to be enjoying the format he once dominated.

India is already navigating a Test landscape without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Kaif cautioned that fans may soon need to acclimatise to Tests without Jasprit Bumrah as well.

He acknowledged that while Bumrah’s mind remains sharp, it’s his body that has lost the battle—a harsh reality for a bowler known as one of the world’s best across all formats.

Whether this marks the end of an illustrious Test career or simply a tactical pause in a squeezed international schedule—with Bumrah originally scheduled for only three Tests in England as part of workload management—remains to be seen.

But one thing is clear: as whispers grow louder, the cricketing world is watching closely to see if Bumrah will be the next Indian cricket icon to hang up his whites.
