Manipur CM Launches App For Pensioners

It will allow only living persons to upload photographs and the app can be installed on any smartphone with a built-in camera (both Android and iOS) and desktop computer or laptop with a webcam

January 5, 2021

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on January 4, 2021, launched the 'mPension Manipur' app for the convenience of the state pensioners.

mPension Manipur is an online platform where pensioners can self-update their details without visiting the treasury offices.

It may be mentioned here that earlier, photographs of every pensioner drawing service pension from the Treasury was required to be updated every six months.

This was done either by the pensioner appearing personally at the Treasury office or by home visits by Treasury officials to the residence of the pensioner if the pensioner is ill or old.

mPension Manipur app will ease this burden of the visit to the treasury office and from now on pensioners can upload their documents directly from home.

The app also provides facilities to pensioners to send feedback to the Treasury and make online queries.

It also notifies pensioners on the status of photographs submitted and the responses to their queries.

mPension Manipur app uses Artificial Intelligence techniques to detect whether the pensioner is alive or dead from the updated photographs.

It will allow only living persons to upload photographs and the app can be installed on any smartphone with a built-in camera (both Android and iOS) and desktop computer or laptop with a webcam.

Once the app is downloaded, then pensioners should take his/her photograph holding the front page of a leading daily newspaper (local or national) of the day in front of his/ her chest.

This way, the app will verify the ‘liveliness’ of the pensioner being photographed.

The app will then instruct the pensioner to perform some facial movements in front of the camera before permitting to upload the photo.

Photographs uploaded by pensioners will be approved by the Treasury officers.

In case, a reason for rejection is found, pensioners will receive a message from the Treasury.

In a tweet, CM Singh said, "Government of Manipur launched today at my office. mPension Manipur will facilitate employees to a flexible personal retirement plan designed to guarantee a dignified and fulfilled life."
