The trailer of Assamese feature film Midnight Song, directed by Arunjit Borah, was released on YouTube on January 13, 2021, and it has been well received by the moviegoers.

Set in Assam, Midnight Song is a story of one night and it features only three characters, essayed by noted actors Kalpana Kalita, Rupam Chetia, and Monuj Borkotoky.

The movie was supposed to release in May this year, but the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown forced the makers to push the release date by few months.

Midnight Song, which will release across Assam on January 29, 2021, will be the first Assamese feature film to hit the theatres after the lockdown.

The last Assamese film that was release was Amrita Gogoi starter Pratighat- which was released on December 6, 2019, but was pulled out as the state was gripped first by the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) and then by anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests and subsequent curfew.

Midnight Song was shot in 2018 and since then it has travelled to several film festivals and has been widely appreciated both by the audience and critics.

The makers of the movie are taking a risk by coming forward and releasing the film as COVID-19 is not yet over and people are still sceptical of visiting cinema halls.

Reacting to the trailer one YouTube user named Bikash Talukdar wrote, "Woo! Assamese cinema has been progressing well. Waiting to watch it."

"Loved the mystery created. Will definitely watched it," wrote another user.

"Midnight Song", as actor Monuj Borkotoky says, "is one of its kind of a movie in the Assamese film industry as there has been no attempt made earlier to make a movie involving only three characters."
