Mobile Theatre Awards: Tapan Das Wins Best Actor Award

The third Udyamaman Bhraymaman Mobile Theatre Awards were presented in Guwahati on Friday where eminent Assamese theatre artiste Tapan Das was awarded the Best Actor (Male) for his character in Mastaan, staged in Brindaban Theatre in last drama season.

Presented in 26 different categories, the award ceremony was attended by a host other luminaries including some of the stalwarts from the world of Assamese mobile theatre industry.

The award ceremony is an attempt of Dalmia Cement to identify and honour the theatre artistes of the state and also encourage them for the future.

In his address to the audience, Sunil Aggarwal, Executive Director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited, said, "The Mobile Theatre industry of Assam is unique and cannot be compared with any other form of art. Hundreds of people have been contributing towards the industry for years and it is due to this that this industry is flourishing. Udyamaman Bhraymaman- an initiative by Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. is another step towards this never-ending journey."

The other winners of the night included Surjya Theatre (Best Theatre team), Prastuti Parashar and Pranjana Dutta- joint winners in the Best Actor (Female) category.

Parashar was honoured for her role in Madhuri Mor Naam, while Dutta bagged the award for her character in Mirabai.

Prastuti Parashar also won the award for Most Popular Actor (Female).

The ‘Most Popular Theatre Group’ award was won by Kohinoor Theatre and popular actor Utpal Das was adjudged as the ‘Most Popular Actor (Male)’

Actor-singer-producer-director Zubeen Garg won the RED FM BajateRaho Best Playback Singer (Male) Award for the play Deuta of Chiranjeeb Theatre.

Deepshikha Bora and Neelam Noyona were joint winners of the RED FM Bajate Raho Best Playback Singer (Female) Award for the play Umoli Jamuli of Abahan Theatre.

Popular music composer Ajoy Phukan won the award for the RED FM Bajate Raho Best Song for the play Deuta of Chiranjeeb Theatre.

Krishna Roy was conferred with the Late Aditi Sharma Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hengul Theatre’s Paplu and Karna Roy respectively won the award for Best Art Director and Best Sound Designer.

Abahan Theatre’s  Nirmal Lahkar won the award for Best Light Designer, Best Choreographer award went to Uday Shankar, Best Lyrics award went to Abhijit Bhattacharya, Best Background Music award went to Arupjyoti Baruah, Best Action Director award went to Dipak Chetri, Best Actor in a Negative Role award went to Jivan Hatikakaty, Best Actor in a Comic role award went to Pranab Sharma, Best Debut (Male) award went to Debasish Borthakur, Best Debut (Female) award went to Jinu Boro, Best Supporting Actor (Male) award went to Krishnamoni Nath, Best Supporting Actor (Female) award went to Girija Sharma, and Best Script Writer award was given to Dhrubajyoti Sharma.

Meanwhile, Mirabai was adjudged as the Best Drama and Mridul Chutia won the Best Director award.

The actors and technicians associated with the mobile theatre industry have opined that there should be many more mobile theatre awards in the state so that each and everyone is motivated for doing good work.
