Named after India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, the Nehru Kund earned its name following a historic visit in 1958, when Prime Minister Nehru first tasted its glacier-fed water during a trek to Beas Kund.

So impressed was he by the rejuvenating freshness of the spring, he reportedly began having the water brought to his residence in Delhi.

Locals believe the spring's purity is enriched by the presence of rare Himalayan herbs that naturally mix into the stream, giving it therapeutic qualities said to help the sick.

The magic of Nehru Kund, however, isn’t just in its water. With panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and lush valleys, it’s a photographer’s paradise.

Whether it’s golden hour portraits or travel vlogs, the natural light here lends itself beautifully to any camera lens. On clear days, tourists are often spotted capturing memories amid the pristine backdrops and refreshing air.

Despite its tranquil vibe, getting to Nehru Kund is surprisingly easy.

If you’re flying in, the nearest airport is Kullu-Manali Airport in Bhuntar, about 56 kilometres away. From there, taxis and local buses can get you to Manali and onward to Nehru Kund with ease.

Prefer the road? Manali is well-connected to Delhi (570 km), Shimla, Chandigarh, Leh, and Dharamshala via a network of comfortable bus services. Adventurous travellers can also opt for a road trip in private vehicles or hired cabs—just ensure your driver is experienced with hilly terrains.

Travelling by train? The nearest major railheads are Ambala Cantt and Chandigarh. Once you arrive, you’ll need to switch to a taxi or bus to complete your journey to Manali and then to Nehru Kund.
