In comparison to the other districts of Assam, the Guwahati Police Commissionerate has the highest number of vacancies, informed CM Sarbananda Sonowal on December 28.
CM Sarbananda Sonowal, who holds the Home portfolio, was replying to a question from AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam, at the three-day special session of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, quoting from the department data, informed that presently there are around 788 different posts are lying vacant in different police stations and outposts under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate.
"A total of 67 posts of sub-inspector, 20 posts of assistant sub-inspector, 11 posts of head constable, seven posts of naik, 659 posts of constable and 24 posts of woman police constable are lying vacant in the city commissionerate," Patowary informed.
The home department data further revealed that a total of 4,356 different posts are lying vacant in different police stations and outposts across the state.
The figure includes six posts of inspectors, 466 posts of sub-inspectors, 263 posts of assistant sub-inspectors, 186 posts of head constable, 147 posts of naik, 3,111 posts of constable and 177 posts of woman police constables.
