The Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad (HYCP), Assam, has alleged that anti-India elements are regaining ground in the state with support from China.
According to the organisation, the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) or ULFA(I), has reactivated its operations and is expanding its network beyond Bangladesh to Bhutan and Myanmar.
Addressing the media in Guwahati on May 26, 2025, HYCP chief advisor Balen Baishya claimed that China is playing a pivotal role by providing financial aid and logistical support to ULFA(I).
"The group has already established camps in Bangladesh and is now planning similar facilities in Bhutan and Myanmar," Baishya stated.
Citing police intelligence, Baishya further alleged that ULFA(I) is recruiting youth from the “Bangladesh-origin” Muslim community residing in the western districts of Assam.
These recruits, he said, are being trained to act as proxies for the banned organisation to carry out jihadi activities in the state.
The HYCP also expressed concern over the emergence of a new Maoist outfit in Assam, which it believes is functioning as a sister organisation to ULFA(I).
"There is a coordinated attempt to destabilise Assam’s internal security with the involvement of multiple anti-national forces," Baishya added.
The organisation also accused China of increasing its influence in the Northeastern states along the Indo-China border with the intent to interfere in India’s internal affairs.
It may be mentioned here that several key HYCP leaders, including central president Madhav Das, central organisational secretary Nitish Bhattacharya, executive member Bitumoni Gogoi, and Rupam Kumar Das, also shared their views in this regard.
