When And Where Will 'Boong' Release On OTT?

February 24, 2026

The BAFTA-winning Manipuri short film Boong has drawn global attention after creating history at the 2026 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), but viewers in India hoping to watch it online will have to wait a little longer.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, the Manipuri-language coming-of-age drama won the award for Best Children’s and Family Film, becoming the first Indian film to secure a BAFTA in that category.

Despite the international acclaim, the film is not currently available on major streaming platforms in India. It had earlier been available on the curated streaming service MUBI for a limited period, but is no longer accessible there.

At present, there has been no official announcement regarding its release on platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or JioHotstar.

Boong first gained attention on the global festival circuit, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and later screening at several international events before receiving a limited theatrical release in September 2025.

The film’s nuanced storytelling and grounded performances earned strong word-of-mouth praise, even though many Indian audiences did not get a chance to see it in cinemas.

Set in a rural part of Manipur, the story follows a young boy determined to reunite his fractured family by finding his missing father.

Through the eyes of the child protagonist, the film explores social realities and emotional struggles within the region while maintaining a tone accessible to younger viewers.

Produced by Excel Entertainment and other partners, the film’s BAFTA win is widely seen as a landmark moment for regional Indian cinema, bringing unprecedented international visibility to Manipuri storytelling.

For now, audiences interested in watching the historic film will need to wait for an official OTT release announcement, as Boong remains unavailable on mainstream streaming services despite its global success.
