Elderly Woman Abandoned By Family Dies In Ayodhya Hospital

July 25, 2025

An elderly woman, believed to be in her late 70s or early 80s, died while undergoing treatment at Darshannagar Medical College after she was abandoned in a critical condition by family members late on January 24, 2025, Thursday, night.

The incident, which occurred in Ayodhya’s Kishun Daspur locality, has triggered widespread public outrage and calls for stringent legal action.

According to police sources, local residents alerted authorities after discovering the woman lying unconscious by the roadside.

She appeared extremely frail and was unable to speak or identify herself.

Responding swiftly, police personnel rushed the woman to the hospital, where doctors declared her condition critical. Despite receiving medical attention, she succumbed to her ailments during treatment.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the area revealed disturbing details.

Two women, accompanied by an e-rickshaw driver, were seen dropping the elderly woman at the roadside under the cover of night.

The footage shows the woman being offloaded while unconscious, after which the trio left the scene without informing anyone or attempting to assist.

“We are currently analysing CCTV footage to identify the individuals involved,” the media reported quoting a senior police official.

“Our immediate concern was to save the woman, but now our focus is also on ensuring justice. We are confident that those responsible will be traced soon,” the official added.

Efforts are ongoing to confirm the deceased woman’s identity, with police working alongside local residents and reviewing missing persons records.

Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that might assist the investigation.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the neglect and abandonment of the elderly, especially by family members.

Civil society groups and residents have expressed their shock and anger over the inhumane treatment of the woman.

Police have assured that those found guilty will face strict legal consequences. The investigation remains active.
