Arunachal Pradesh: Students Carry Out Plantation Drive

A plantation drive was carried out on April 17, 2026, Friday, at Changprong in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district by a group of six students from Dorjee Khandu Government College (DKGC).

The initiative was led by the college’s assistant general secretary, Sang Tashi Shongla, who highlighted the importance of environmental conservation.

He said maintaining ecological balance is crucial and warned that inaction could have serious consequences for future generations.

Shongla observed that the effects of global warming are becoming more apparent with each passing year. He cited landslides, the drying up of water sources, and prolonged winter conditions as outcomes linked to the loss of forest cover.

He added that students can contribute to society by engaging in activities that create a positive environmental impact in the near future.

The team, comprising Tenzin Dedul, Thutan Tsering, Lobsang Gendan, Tenzin Wangchuk Damo, and Rinchin Wangdi, planted around 150 saplings, including pine, oak, blue pine, and other species suited to the local climate.

The drive was conducted under the guidance of DKGC principal Dr Yeshi Gyesen.

The students also expressed gratitude to local MLA Namgey Tsering, Ranger Tage Haniya, Sangey Lungten, and members of the All Tawang District Students’ Union for their support.
