Body Of Missing Polling Official Found In Assam’s Karbi Anglong

The decomposed body of a polling official, who had been missing since the day of voting in Assam, was recovered from a remote hilly area in Karbi Anglong district, officials said on April 19, 2026, Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Cornelius Kindu, who was serving as the third polling officer at the No. 19 Sarpo Kathar LP School polling station during the Assembly elections held on April 9, 2026.

According to officials, local residents discovered the body in the Rongwongwey area on April 18, 2026, and informed the authorities.

As per media reports, the body was found in a decomposed state, and reports indicate that it was unclothed, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.

Kindu had gone missing on April 9, 2026, after reportedly falling ill while on election duty. He had left the polling station during the voting process but did not return home, prompting concern among family members and authorities.

A search operation involving police and local residents had been underway since his disappearance, with drones deployed to scan the difficult terrain. However, no trace of him was found until the recovery of the body.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials said the exact cause of death is yet to be determined, and post-mortem and forensic reports are awaited.
