Taapsee Pannu Reflects On ‘Torturing’ Herself Over Flat Midriff Expectations
Actor Taapsee Pannu has spoken candidly about the pressure women face to achieve a perfectly flat stomach, revealing that she once pushed herself excessively in pursuit of an unrealistic body ideal.
In a message shared on Instagram on May 31, 2026 (Sunday), Pannu said she spent years questioning why she could not get rid of lower belly fat despite maintaining a high level of fitness.
The actor admitted that her fixation led her to overwork herself physically in an attempt to achieve a flat midriff, the media reported.
According to Pannu, intense exercise can sometimes have the opposite effect, with the body responding to excessive stress by retaining water and increasing protection around vital organs.
She said she eventually came to understand that a small amount of fat in the lower abdomen is both natural and healthy for women.
The actor urged young women not to compare their bodies with those seen on social media or in photographs, noting that many images are taken under specific conditions and do not reflect how people look all the time.
She advised against putting oneself through extreme diets or punishing workout routines simply to meet aesthetic expectations.
Pannu’s comments have resonated with wider discussions around body image and wellness.
In recent years, she has frequently spoken about rejecting conventional beauty standards and embracing a healthier approach to fitness and self-acceptance.
The actor, who starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 2023 film Dunki, has often used her public platform to advocate for realistic body expectations and greater awareness of women’s health.
Her latest remarks come amid growing conversations about body positivity and the impact of unrealistic beauty standards, particularly on young women exposed to heavily curated images online.
