Assam Artist Starts Fundraising Campaign To Support Menstrual Hygiene

arth_art_for_humanity aims to start distributing sanitary pads throughout India by collaborating with various organisations that have been in the field and working towards promoting menstrual hygiene

February 8, 2021

Rittyz Kashyap, a social artist from Assam and the co-founder of arth_art_for_humanity, launched a fundraising campaign supporting menstrual hygiene in Guwahati.

The campaign was launched on the last day of the three-day 10th Jeevan Kite River Festival on February 7 (Sunday).

Wearing symbolic sanitary pads around his body, Kashyap approached the visitors and explained to them the purpose behind the fundraising campaign.

The pads were designed by Madhumita Nowholia Phukan, a student of NIFT Shillong.

"Millions of girls and women across the country, especially in rural areas, don’t have access to menstrual hygiene measures," said Kashyap.

"We, at arth_art_for_humanity, are working towards helping these women to have a safe period by distributing eco-friendly sanitary pads to underprivileged women across the length and breadth of the country, encompassing rural as well as urban pockets," he further said.

Kashyap further informed that the endeavour has been named Project P, which is an initiative under ShEqual- an initiative to empower girls and women across the country.

"The fundraising campaign has been already launched online and people have been donating to the cause. This is the first time that we have launched the campaign physically," he added.

"We aim to host more such campaigns in the coming days, not just in Guwahati but other places as well," he added.

"The experience today was good. I hope more people will come forward and donate to the cause," he further said.

It may be mentioned here that according to a report by dasra.org, only 12 per cent of women and girls have access to sanitary napkins in India.

Moreover, a majority of them relies on outdated, unhygienic methods during menstruation which in turn leads to a number of other fatal diseases.

arth_art_for_humanity aims to start distributing sanitary pads throughout India by collaborating with various organisations that have been in the field and working towards promoting menstrual hygiene.

To encourage the women to practice sustainable menstrual hygiene, the NGO will distribute eco-friendly washable cloth sanitary pads made by Eco Femme.
