Rahul Roy, the former Congress MLA from the Algapur constituency of the Hailakandi district, submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday as an independent candidate.
The former Congress legislator will be contesting the ensuing Assam Assembly polls from the Udharbondh Legislative Assembly Constituency of Cachar district.

Interacting with the media after filing his papers Roy said that even though he was reluctant to contest the polls, however, his decision changed after the people of the Udharbond constituency showed their trust in him.
