The Assam government declared paid holidays in the 126 constituencies of the state where elections will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1, and April 6.
The decision was taken to encourage the voting spirit among the people and the move would thus enable the employees and their employers to cast their votes.
"The holidays will be applicable in all factories, plantations, shops, commercial establishments and banking institutions," stated an official statement.
