Dr Jyoti Prasad Saikia has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of Birangana Sati Sadhani State University.
Dr Saikia, who is a professor at the Department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University, has done a wide range of research work in Gender Studies, Social Problem, Sociological Theories, and Cultural Studies.
The announcement was made via notification by Preetom Saikia, commissioner and secretary, higher education department, Assam.

In a tweet, state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "My heartiest congratulations to Dr Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Professor, Dept of Sociology, Dibrugarh University on being appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of Biranagana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyala."
"I am certain you'll take this University to new heights of academic glory," he added.

The Assam government in September 2020 announced the setting up of the Birangana Sati Sadhani State University at Golaghat to commemorate the last queen of the Chutia dynasty- Sati Sadhani.
