Coronavirus: LNIPE Declared As Containment Zone

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state, especially in Kamrup (Metro) district, the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) Sonarpur has been declared a containment zone.

Issuing an order, Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner Biswajit Pegu said, "In view of the detection of COVID-19 cases at Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Sonarpur, under Kamrup Metropolitan district, in the interest of the maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst the teaching staff and students, the entire area of the LNIPE premises is declared as CONTAINMENT ZONE for next 14 days w.e.f. today and the Circle Officer, Sonapur Revenue Circle is directed to seal the area immediately."

"Any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified CONTAINMENT ZONE are barred for the next seven days," the order further added.

"Any movement of any unauthorized individual and vehicle within the notified area is also prohibited with immediate effect," the order added.

"The order is made under the regulations "The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020" and shall be effective from 8th April 2020, till 21st April 2021," Pegu said in the order.

"Any violation of the order will attract action under the provision of the Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020, Disaster Management Act, 2005, The Epidemic Disease Act, 1897 and other relevant laws of the nation," DC said in the order.
