Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on February 4 tweeted that she still stands with the farmers of India who are agitating against the three farm bills passed by the government.

The tweet comes shortly after the Delhi Police Cyber Cell registered an FIR against the teenage activist earlier on the day.

"I still #StandWithFarmers and support their peaceful protest. No amount of hate, threats or violations of human rights will ever change that. #FarmersProtest," she tweeted.

The FIR by the Delhi Police Cyber Cell was based on a tweet by the teenage activist where she had supported the ongoing farmers’ agitation in India.

It may be mentioned here that on February 4, 2021, in a tweet Greta Thunberg wrote, "We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India.”

Along with the tweet, she also shared a link to a news article about the government's decision to disconnect internet services in several areas of New Delhi.

Following Thunberg's tweet, a host of other international celebrities also tweeted in support of the Indian farmers and the farm protests.

Among the celebrities who tweeted in support of the farmers included pop singer Rihanna.

Reacting to these tweets, the union home ministry issued a statement and slammed the foreign individuals and other entities for commenting on the ongoing farmers' protests.

"It is unfortunate to see vested interest groups trying to enforce their agenda on these protests, and derail them," the statement by the union home ministry said.
