Traffic Halts As Green Anaconda Crosses Road

April 30, 2019

Vehicles stopped and pedestrians froze in a busy road in Brazil's Porto Velho as a green anaconda was captured in a video while it was crossing the road. The video has gone viral on social media recently.

The video, which according to Global News was first shared by Italo Nascimento Fernandes, shows the giant anaconda making attempts to cross the road as some people stopped their vehicles giving the reptile a safe passage. Some travellers were even seen clicking self-portraits (selfies) with the reptile as it moved from one side of the road to the other.

Sources and local news reports said that the reptile was over three meters long and weighed almost 30 kilograms.

Interacting with Brazilian website G1 Globo, Biologist Falvio Terassini said, "The snake had reached the city road while searching for food. These snakes can appear in the urban area in search of food, which is small rodents, and in the city they can feed on dogs and even cats, so it’s good to be careful not to leave the trash in the yard because these animals can smell the rodents or these animals and come close to homes, especially in the rainy season.”

Snake experts say that the Green anaconda is the heaviest snake in the world and prefers to stay in water than on land.

It may be mentioned here that this is not the only giant snake sighting in recent times. A few days ago, an 18-foot-python was found atop a home in Detroit's East Seven Mile neighbourhood. The snake, identified as Juliet, was noticed after a dog barked at her and alerted the neighbours.
