Young Indians, the youth wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), observed Climate Action Week from September 18, 2022, to September 25, 2022.
Young Indians Guwahati Chapter too organised various activities in the state to mark the occasion.
On September 25, 2022, the Yi Guwahati Chapter launched their second Miyawaki Forest project in association with Pallavi Baruah, Regional Chair, Yi Northeast Region at Lotus Meadows in Pamohi where saplings of 45 species of indigenous plants were planted in an area of 1550 sq. ft. as per Miyawaki Forest Method.
Yi Guwahati Chapter members, their families, and several other guests attended this event.
Speaking during the plantation drive, the chair of the Yi Guwahati Chapter, Amrit Deorah, said, "We have several verticals under Young Indians, with Climate Change vertical being one of the important ones."
"Our chapter tried to make the best use possible of the entire week to create an awareness of climate change and also to take some action to conserve our climate. We are glad that we have been able to reach out to a good number of people through our initiative," he added.
Apart from the launch of the 2nd Miyawaki Forest Project, Young Indians Guwahati Chapter also organised Yi Water Warrior in association with three schools in the city- Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti, Royal Global School and St. Joseph's School at Azara.
In the Water Warrior Campaign, 1200 students learned about water conservation and were instructed to use as little water as possible in their day-to-day activities, such as brushing, bathing, etc.
Explaining about Water Warrior, Nitesh Todi, Co-Chair, Yi Guwahati Chapter said, "Our focus through this campaign has been to get children involved so that they understand the importance of conserving water from an early stage and how wasting it can be detrimental to us and our environment."
"As an act of encouraging these youngsters for their active participation, we provided certificates that will remind them to continue this noble action," he added.
Climate change is one of the focus areas of Yi to contribute towards creating a positive environment and greener planet.
It has been creating awareness, advocacy and action programs with multiple stakeholders across public and private sectors to impact change.
The Yi Climate Change vertical has an ambitious agenda to make its members and student members contribute actively towards spreading climate change awareness and making India more carbon-neutral through its outreach programs.
