Review Of 'Autobiography Of A Paedophile'

Review Of 'Autobiography Of A Paedophile'

August 26, 2025

I read Autobiography Of A Paedophile and found it deeply engrossing. What struck me most was how vividly it captures the adolescent stage — a time when one often acts without thinking straight, swept away by the thrill of the current.

As we grow into adulthood, burdened with responsibilities, we may not expect those same tides to return — yet sometimes, they resurface unexpectedly.

One of the most memorable aspects of the book is Partha’s perception of the Brahmaputra: how the river flowing through Guwahati feels like home, while the same river in Tezpur feels strangely alien.

Set in the early 2000s, the story brims with nostalgia — internet cafés, a quieter Guwahati with less traffic, and even the once-famous Chung Fa’s American Chop Suey.

The writing is breezy and easy to read, with short and crisp chapters that make the book unputdownable. Just when you settle into the flow, pulling you along until, quite suddenly, the narrative takes a sharp nosedive — and horrors from the past catch up with the present that grips you till the very end.

What impressed me most is how well Partha has etched the emotional turmoil of his male protagonist — raw, vulnerable, and convincingly human.

And from a man’s perspective, he has also done a remarkable job portraying the inner world of a woman — something not easy for a male author to capture so sensitively.

It’s a book that lingers long after you finish it. I found myself wondering about the characters — what if he had done this instead of that, could things have turned out differently?

The characters stay alive in your mind, making you wish for more.

I sincerely hope there will be a sequel.
