Dalai Lama To Receive Grammy Award In Dharamshala Today
Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is set to formally receive his first Grammy Award during a special ceremony in Dharamshala on the morning of June 3, 2026 (Wednesday).
The award will be presented to him by acclaimed sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his sons, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, who collaborated on the Grammy-winning project Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The musicians are expected to visit the Dalai Lama’s office in the morning and personally present the trophy during a private function.
The album won the Grammy Award in the Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category at the 68th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles earlier this year, marking the first Grammy honour of the Dalai Lama’s life. The award was accepted on his behalf during the ceremony in February.
The project combines the Dalai Lama’s reflections on compassion, peace, mindfulness, environmental responsibility and human unity with Indian classical music composed and performed by the Khan family.
The spoken-word recording seeks to bring together spiritual teachings and music in a format accessible to audiences across the world.
Following the Grammy win in February, the Dalai Lama described the recognition as an acknowledgement of humanity’s shared responsibility towards compassion and understanding.
He said he accepted the honour with gratitude and humility, expressing hope that it would help spread values of peace and kindness more widely.
The Grammy success was widely celebrated by Tibetans in exile and followers of the Dalai Lama across the world.
Many viewed the award as international recognition of his long-standing message of non-violence, compassion and universal responsibility.
At 90, the Dalai Lama continues to be one of the world’s most recognised spiritual figures.
His Grammy victory added a new distinction to a life that has already included numerous international honours, including the Nobel Peace Prize.
