Pakistan's Sana Mir Retires From International Cricket

Sana Mir, the former captain of Pakistan women's cricket team, retired from international cricket on Saturday after a magnificent career.

Mir, in due course of the period, went on to become the most successful female off-spinner in the history of women's one-day cricket.

She was a part of the Pakistan cricket team that won gold at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.

She went on to become the number one bowler in the ICC ranking in 2018.

Sana Mir's rise to fame story is an inspirational story for many in Pakistani girls who went on to chose cricket as a profession only after seeing her success,

Moreover, her rise can also be attributed to the growth of sporting opportunities for Pakistani women as a whole as were not allowed to play in open fields until the early 2000s.

The charismatic cricketer, after the announcement of her retirement, said she was felt extremely satisfied that she was a part of the numerous success stories that the Pakistani women's cricket team stitched over the years.

Sana Mir made her debut in 2005 and until her retirement, she had played 226 international matches and she is among the nine women cricketers to have taken 100 wickets and scored 1,000 runs in ODIs.

Under her captaincy, the Pakistan team won two World Cups and five T20 World Cups.

Even after her prolific records, the talented player was not selected for the T20 World Cup early this year, hinting that her career was nearing the end.

In a statement to the media, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief  Executive Wasim Khan had said that Sana Mir has been the face of Pakistan women’s cricket for several years.

"Mir has been a real source of inspiration for the younger generation, especially of the women cricketers," Khan added.

Sana Mir will always be remembered for her scintillating performances and her flawless leadership skills.
