The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police on August 25, 2024, arrested a man from Sivasagar, Assam, for allegedly defrauding numerous individuals by falsely claiming connections with the Chief Minister’s OSD.

Sleuths from the Crime Branch apprehended one Kaustav Baruah in Sivasagar's Simaluguri, on charges of orchestrating a large-scale scam, swindling over Rs 1 crore from various victims.

Baruah, along with his mother and wife, allegedly promised jobs and contracts, exploiting the name of the Chief Minister’s OSD to gain trust.

Reports indicate that Baruah’s mother was arrested on August 23, 2025, for deceiving 25-30 people out of lakhs of rupees by falsely claiming association with the OSD and soliciting funds for his wife’s treatment.

The scam was exposed when a suspicious victim confronted her.

Baruah's wife, Jupitara Saikia Baruah, was also arrested in Biswanath on August 25, 2024.

Kaustav Baruah, who posed as the Chief Minister’s doctor, is also accused of threatening victims with a weapon.

Moreover, he is also accused of being involved in a health department job scam with his wife.

The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
