Himanta Biswa Sarma Ends Campaigning With Five Meetings, One Roadshow; Confident Of Victory

April 5, 2021

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took part in one roadshow and five public meetings on April 4, the last day of campaigning for the third and final phase of polls in the state

He addressed a roadshow in Bijni and this was followed by public meetings in Dudhnoi, Borkhetry, Hajo and Jalukbari, his home constituency.

In Jalukbari Himanta Biswa Sarma said BJP is not a communal party and said he has never made polarising statements during campaigns even though he has been accused many times.

"We don’t indulge in communal politics and the BJP has worked equally for the development of people from every religion over the last five years," Sarma said.

"We have been successful in upholding a new illustration of secularism in Assam," he added.

Sarma also lashed out at the Congress and AIUDF and said that their alliance is unholy for Assam and alleged them of doing communal politics.

"I am confident that Assam will give the Congress-AIUDF alliance a befitting reply. Assam will thwart communal politics," he said.

He further said that protection of culture, community, land and hearth is what Assam wants.

"I will not ask anyone to come and vote in my favour as those who vote for me and those who don't, are all my people," Sarma further said.

"People who love me and people who don't are my people and I have equal responsibility for all," he added.

Sarma later tweeted photos of Shah meeting him briefly.

“Very kind of Hon HM Sri @AmitShah to have come at Sualkuchi helipad especially to bless me ahead of our public meeting. Following the dharma of duty first and nation foremost, he had to return to Delhi in wake of a Naxal attack in #Chhattisgarh, in which we lost our brave hearts," he wrote.

It may be mentioned here that there were 1,81,315 registered voters in the Jalukbari assembly constituency in 2016.
