Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Saturday informed that Nagaland's capital Kohima will get connected railway connectivity by March 2023.
The NFR statement issued on Saturday highlighted the various investments made by the Indian Railways in the Northeast to bring each state capital under the railways' radar.
"The targeted date of completion for Dimapur–Kohima covering 82 kilometres is March 2023," the NFR statement said.
The statement further added that along with Kohima, rail connectivity to other state capitals of the region is also expected to be completed by March 2023.
However, Imphal (111 Km Jiribam– Imphal) and Shillong (22 km Teteliya-Byrnihat) projects are estimated to be finished earlier than others with the target date of completion of March 2022, the statement added.
Moreover, the 44 Km Sivok – Rangpo project to connect Sikkim’s capital Gangtok is also slated to be completed by December 2022.
"The target for completing Bhairabi – Sairang 51 kilometre long railway track to bring Mizoram capital Aizawl under the railway' radar is also expected to be completed by March 2023.
While all the NE States (except Sikkim) are currently connected by Rail network so far, only the state capitals of Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh are under its ambit.
The NFR statement further informed that in the Indian Railways in the last 6 years has made a capital investment of Rs 27,655 crores in several projects in the northeast.
"The amount is 160 per cent more than the capital investment of Rs 10,610 crore made during 2009-14," the statement further highlighted.
"Major thrust has been given in developing the rail infrastructure. This will have a great impact on the socio-economic development of the entire northeast region," the NFR statement further added.
It may be mentioned here that one of the major projects completed during the last 6 years include the 5 km Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge across river Brahmaputra.
The bridge was commissioned and dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2018.
