With a capacity of 1027 beds, the quarantine centre at Ganesh Nagar in Dimapur in Nagaland has been touted as the biggest centre of the northeast.

It is managed by Nagaland police personnel and has been rendering non-stop service to the COVID-19 patients of the state.

Nagaland   DGP T John Longkumer informed that the quarantine centre was set up to augment the state government’s efforts to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

"A police team was deputed to Ganeshnagar Special Economic Zone on May 20 to assess, plan, organise and work out modalities to set up the facility, which was set up in a fortnight," reported Nagaland Post quoting Longkumer.

It may be mentioned here that a team headed by DIG (Training) Aotemsu looked after the accommodation, power supply, sanitation, water supply, office and control room, security, logistics, catering and transport at the quarantine centre.

The police team worked relentlessly to get the centre ready in record time, the DGP further added.

It was further informed that a total of 640 police personnel engaged themselves to set up the quarantine centre.

As per information, the first batch of 509 returnees from Bengaluru to Nagaland, including 383 men and 126 women, reached the quarantine centre on June 5.

This was followed by returnees from Punjab, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

A police medical team consisting of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers is stationed in the centre 24*7.

Nagaland, till date, has recorded 845 COVID-19 cases and 71 cases reported on Monday (July 13) itself- which is the highest single-day spike till date.

Of the total cases, 505 are active cases and 340 patients have recovered so far.

As per the severity of symptoms, 490 active cases are asymptomatic while 15 active cases are mild.
