Manipur: Earthquake Of Magnitude 3.5 Jolts Ukhrul
A magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck Ukhrul in Manipur on July 21, 2023, morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake occurred at 5:01 a.m. and was felt at a depth of 20 kilometres. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The earthquake was the second to hit the region in a span of half an hour.
Earlier, three earthquakes were felt in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The latest earthquake, which had a magnitude of 3.4, occurred at around 4:25 a.m. The first quake, which had a magnitude of 4.4, occurred at 4:09 a.m., and the second quake, which had a magnitude of 3.1, occurred at 4:22 a.m.
All three earthquakes occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The NCS has advised people in the region to stay alert and take necessary precautions in case of aftershocks.
Here are some tips for staying safe during an earthquake:
- Stay calm and don’t panic.
- Drop, cover, and hold on.
- If you are inside, move to a sturdy interior room, such as a bathroom or closet.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
- If you are outside, move to an open area away from buildings and trees.
- Do not use elevators.
