Assam: Youths Complete Skill Enhancement Course, Receive Certificates

A total of 152 youths from Mikir Bamuni Gaon and Murgi Ladai in Nagaon district of Assam on June 2 were distributed certificates for successfully completing skill enhancement courses.

The courses that focussed on cutting & tailoring and embroidery design were imparted by Azure Power at its Skill Development Centers in Mikir Bamuni and Murgi Ladai.

Sewing machines were distributed to top performers of the skill enhancement course.

Keeping Covid protocols and the overall COVID-19 situation in Assam in mind, the programme was organised in small groups across two days.

It may be mentioned here that Azure Power’s skill development centres in Mikir Bamuni and Murgi Ladai provide training to the local community in cutting & tailoring-up and embroidery courses.

Such has been the popularity of these courses that it has today become a source of regular income for many and increases the chances of future employment for the locals.

Sumit Barat, Chief Sustainability Officer, Azure Power, said, “This certification program is to give our beneficiaries a boost to further hone their skills."

"We are glad that the local communities understand the significance of our Skill Centers and hence come forward in big numbers to benefit from it," Barat added.

"This encourages us to help them enhance their skills and extend all the possible help they require. We are running similar skill enhancement programmes in other districts in Assam as well," he further said.

The company currently runs Skill Development Centers in three other districts in Assam and has provided training to more than 500 people.

It has also distributed tools of the trade such as sewing machines, promoted animal husbandry, as well as employed people from the local community at the project sites.

The local infrastructure has also been augmented in the villages with initiatives like setting up streetlights and providing ROs for clean and safe drinking water.

Furthermore, the infrastructure in the local schools has been augmented into smart classrooms by the installation of multimedia-enabled and computer-aided learning solutions with the intended impact of improving the holistic educational facilities for students.
