Election Dance: Watch Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gaurav Gogoi Dance At Separate Rallies

March 29, 2021

Election dance! Have you ever imagined that there could be a dance form called election dance and if you did, can you say what could this election dance possibly be?

Well, election dance is not a classical or modern dance form and by it, we mean the dance to which the political leaders break into during election campaigning.

Such election dances have become a common sight in Assam in the last few years.

Even though several political commentators find these election dances "offensive", however, these dances turn out to be a great source of entertainment for the people.

Similar scenes were observed at two separate election rallies in Panery and Nalbari on March 28 where senior BJP leader and state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi were respectively caught on camera dancing.

“Absolutely stunned by the vast crowd gathered here at Panery. Grateful for such love and support from the people," Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted along with the video of his dance as he asked people to join him.

It may be mentioned here that Himanta Biswa Sarma's dance moves became viral during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaigning in Assam.

Meanwhile, in Nalbari, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi was seen dancing Bihu as he urged the people gathered to vote for the party.

"It was more of a festive occasion while we were campaigning in Nalbari, and we couldn't help but join in with the enthusiastic crowd dancing and expressing their optimism, joy, confidence in Congress's progressive vision for Assam," the Kaliabor MP later tweeted along with the video.

The first phase of the Assam Assembly election for 47 constituencies was held on March 27 with lakhs of people exercising their franchise and deciding the fate of 264 candidates in the state.

Most of these 47 seats are witnessing a triangular contest between the ruling BJP-AGP alliance, the Congress-led opposition grand alliance and the newly-formed Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

The second phase and third phase of the election will respectively be held on April 1 and April 6 and results will be declared on May 2.
