Addressing the Manipur Legislative Assembly during the evening session of the 6th session of the 12th Assembly, CM Biren Singh, who is also the leader of the House, addressed the issue head-on.
He explained that during a NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi on July 28, 2024, he met with several chief ministers from across the country.
During this meeting, Singh conversed with many Northeast chief ministers, including Lalduhoma of Mizoram, Neiphiu Rio of Nagaland, and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam.
These conversations were friendly and informal, with Neiphiu Rio even inquiring about Singh's absence from the recent Hornbill Festival in Nagaland.
Continuing his clarification, CM Biren Singh stated that he simply extended an invitation to the newly appointed Mizoram CM, Lalduhoma, to visit Manipur.
He emphasised that there was no discussion about Lalduhoma taking on any official role as an interlocutor to mediate the Manipur crisis.
However, Singh noted that some social media platforms and media outlets misinterpreted these friendly exchanges, leading to the spread of incorrect information.
